PL IconHello fellow roleplayers, PvPers and fantasy lovers-alike, I want to tell you a little more about the project (mentioned here) I’m currently working on, Project Legacies.

I’ve received a few questions in the last month or so regarding this project, and Ill try to explain the basics of what we’re trying to accomplish and what it’s all about.

Let me start by briefly explaining the background of this project;

Project Legacies was born out of playing Ultima Online, and simply realizing that Ultima Online, as it is, will never be able to realize the concepts we have for the MMO scene.

The leadership of this project are old Ultima Online players who also have extensive experience in the management and development of MMO worlds and the systems involved in making them work.

With that said, I want to make this clear: Project Legacies is NOT Ultima Online.

We are not setting up or developing a new UO shard.

Project Legacies is a whole new game, with totally new concepts.

After past experience with Ultima Online and after running into many client limitations we have realized that if we wanted to do something new, something fresh and something extraordinary, we’d have to start from the beginning - and this meant a new client.

And so, Project Legacies will use our own game engine called ‘Blaze’, coded and designed from scratch, however retaining the aesthetic look and feel of the 2D UO series.

The Project Legacies client will be utilizing the 2D UO files to function, but will also feature numerous visual upgrades, the greatest of which is the addition of an extensive 3D particle engine that has been developed specifically for use in our client.

Unannounced ProjectAs I mentioned a while ago with my blog entry regarding Ultima Online, the last while I’ve been wanting to get back into the scene.

However, after collaborating with a few friends that helped establish UOSA back in the day, we’ve decided on starting a brand smacking new project.

This isn’t going to be another UO Shard, we’ve decided to move away from such a restrictive paradigm and rule-set, instead we’re working on something totally new.

I’ll post more information regarding this project here on this blog soon - with details for team / staff applications.

Almost two years ago me and a few friends launched a project named “Ultima Online: Sosarian Adventures“;
This project grew in popularity, competing with the then, Legend of Chyrellos, and soon became the most popular Ultima Online server in South Africa.
Meanwhile, the original Ultima Online: Sosarian Adventures (or UOSA) underwent a lot of changes ranging from small coding differences to new leveling systems and even a new emulation engine.

At the beginning of this year, I resigned from the administration crew simply because my life was getting too busy, and the project was simply no longer functioning within the dreams I had for it - but my love for Ultima still remains.

In the last few weeks I’ve been quite keen to start working on a new UO shard - a shard where people can carve out their fantasy lives, make new friends and have great fun.
Personally I’m unsure if there are still many people still willing to play UO as of late, but I’m sure its worth a shot?

The punchline of this post is;
If you’re interested in Ultima Online or the Ultima series and believe you could make a contribution to a community of players, young and old, please drop me a line via the comments.

The only UO shard operating in South Africa at this time is Sosarian Adventures, but it seems to be dying due to an excess of bugs.

Would you join a new UO Shard?
